Artichokes

I like to eat creatively. It’s one of life’s true joys. Why would you want to eat the same meal over and over again.

But you can take that attitude a little too far.

For example, how hungry was the first person to try to eating an artichoke?

Seriously, look at those things. It’s like somebody crossed a pinecone, an armadillo, and a flail.

It took a real visionary to look at a raw artichoke and say, “You know, if I boil that thing for an hour, I bet I can peel those spiked leaves out and eat the soft end with hollandaise sauce. Mmmagic.”

And then after he was finished with artichokes, what else did that guy try to eat? “I bet if I marinade oak branches for three days, they’d taste great in ketchup.”

“I bet if I render horses hooves and add sugar and strawberry flavor, I’ll make a firm little snack the kids will go crazy for.”

Okay, that last one’s true, Jello anyone?

Seriously, though. Sometimes people are trying too hard to discover things we can make edible by going through some crazy processes. I’m looking at you, seaweed and bone marrow.

Reel it in, “foodies”, we’ve got Hot Pockets and Jello Pudding Pops…what else do we really need?
